Q&A with Big Brother Frank and Little Brother Jax

We’re excited to introduce one of our newest matches—Big Brother Frank and Little Brother Jax! Though they were just recently matched, these two have already built an incredible connection. Frank, a longtime former board member, has supported our mission for years, and it’s inspiring to see him now stepping into this new role as a mentor. Tell us about first meeting your Big Brother Frank – what do you remember?  

I remember us going fishing in Crozet and I caught a fish.  

What are some fun experiences and activities that you and your Big Brother Frank have done together?   

He takes me fishing a lot and that makes me happy because before I rarely got to go. We go to the park and he practices baseball with me. I got to meet his new puppy, Koufax. That was exciting because I love all animals. 

Why do you like about having a Big Brother?  

I like that we do fun stuff together all the time.  

What are three words you would use to describe your Big Brother  

Fun, kind and dependable  

What advice would you offer to a Little Brother?   

It’s going to be fun.

Q&A with Frank 

Tell us about first meeting your Little Brother Jax.  

He was excited and open. He had great energy.  We seemed to connect right away. 

What are your favorite memories or memories about time spent with your Little Brother Jax?   

 Jax is a great kid.  He’s very smart, funny, and kind, and he’s really quick.  The best moments are seeing his personality come through. 

What have you learned about being a Big?    

It’s actually very simple. You have to show up consistently, have a little bit of patience, and be yourself. 
 

Why did you become a Big – and what was motivating about this opportunity after your years serving on our board?   

Life is good and it was time. 

What is your biggest challenge as a Big?   

The biggest challenge is in getting to know your Little, understanding their personality and something about their experience.  It’s about building relationships with your Little and their parent. 

What advice would you offer to someone considering to become a Big?   

If you are thinking about it, do it.  Make the commitment.  You'll get so much more out of it than you put in.
